Originally launched in New York in 1931 under the name Cleopatra, the vessel changed hands and name just two years later. She went on to serve during WWII as a patrol boat for the US Coast Guard, before being retired to Florida. Her owner, Mrs Nash Bliss, lived aboard Maid Marian 2 until the early 1990s. MM2 was then shipped to Phuket, Thailand, to become a charter for the Amanpuri Resort.
It was during this period of MM2’s life that her path crossed with Hollywood director and filmmaker Roland Emmerich.
Emmerich fell for Maid Marian’s charms, and in 2007 bought her and, with the help of British designer John Teall, began a project to recommission the vessel to her original splendour. As 2021 marks the 90th anniversary of her first sailing, Maid Marian 2 began a further comprehensive six-month refit programme. Apart from a general overhaul and preventative maintenance, including a series of engineering and paint works, the upper deck is being completely transformed, providing nearly 100 square metres of passenger comforts. These will include a large sunbathing area, a fully stocked and functioning bar, and the latest sound system allowing passengers to experience unparalleled luxury at sea.
Below decks, there are five luxurious double cabins, three with ensuite facilities, allowing spacious accommodations for up to 10 guests.
